Fire on Usedom: Karin Lossow's thatched roof house is in flames. She can escape the blaze in the last second with the help of Ellen Norgaard. Karin is rushed off to the hospital with smoke poisoning. While in treatment at the clinic, she befriends the former nurse Saskia Bernard, who was hit by a car and has sustained serious injuries. Saskia was on her way to psychotherapy, when the vehicle hit her. And even though the young woman is recovering fast, her memory of the accident is gone. The car and the driver are nowhere to be found. Who wanted to kill Saskia? And why? Saskia's life seems to centre around her husband Kolja, who has been in a persistent vegetative state for years and whom she takes care of around the clock. There is simply no motive. Ellen and her partner Rainer Witt face quite the investigation and Karin won't stop snooping around for her own clues either.
