In a small town in Lower Saxony, the wife of banker Frank Holdt is kidnapped. In panic, Holdt pleas with his wealthy parents-in-law, Christian and Gudula Reventlow to help. He is unable to raise the ransom money the criminals demand alone. Before long, the whole thing escalates into a full-blown row regarding further steps. When Christian Reventlow informs the LKA, the Federal Office of Criminal Investigation, against Holdt's express wish, he hands over the money on his own, even before Charlotte Lindholm can begin with her police investigation. Joined by her colleague Frauke Schaefer, Charlotte has to work under pressure to find the brutal blackmailers, without putting the life of the hostage at risk.
