After six years in prison, former district attorney Karin returns to her house on the island of Usedom, a house the locals refer to as the "murder house". Here, Karin impulsively shot her husband, because of his younger lover. The islanders keep their distance. Even Karin's daughter, Julia, who works as a Chief Inspector, doesn't entirely trust her. She has to solve the death of someone who has drowned. Thomas Krenzlin caused a car crash several years ago, in which two people died. He has been confined to a wheelchair ever since. Julia is puzzled by his death: was it an accident, because the Polish male nurse forgot to pull the brakes? Was it a murder out of revenge or even suicide, due to the deceased being tired of life? Karin follows her daughter's investigations exactly, even to the point of interfering and eventually comes up with a very dangerous idea…
