At the mouth of the Danube there is a sign with a 0. Normally, rivers are measured from their source. With the Danube, however, it is the other way around: this is not where it ends according to this measurement, but where it begins - with probably the most magnificent landscape of all the many that it has created on its more than 2850 km long journey from the Black Forest to the Black Sea: a 5800 km2 delta, the largest in Europe after the Volga Delta, almost twice the size of the Saarland.
