The first day back at work for Ellen Norgaard after her baby break and it ends in disaster. Her one-year-old son Jesper is kidnapped while being looked after by his Nanny. Inspector Rainer Witt and former prosecutor Karin Lussow move heaven and earth to find the child. One investigative detail puts Karin on the right track: The kidnapper is none other than Patrizia, Ellen's mother, who disappeared off the face of the earth more than 30 years ago. In the days of their youth, Karin and Patrizia were close friends. Since Karin knows Patrizia so well from way back when, she works on the case with extra intensity.
