With its 2,918 metres, Mount Olympus is the highest mountain range in Greece. In Greek mythology, it is the seat of Zeus and his legendary host of Gods. Close by is the Pilion Peninsula with its sycamore tree forests, olive groves, old mountain villages and dreamlike bays. This beauty is only surpassed by the world-famous Meteora Monasteries, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The holy sites were built on sharp rocks. Maria Zolota and her hus-band, Dionisis, are hut-keepers of the Spilios Agapitos. The Olympus refuge is located at over 2000 metres above sea level. More than 10.000 guests stay overnight here every season, making organisational talent and elbow grease sought-after commodities. Water reaches the hut via a pipeline from the mountains: melt water. Food sup-plies also have to be organised as there is no cable car or feeder road. Fortunately, there is Takis and his "Mule Express". Panagiotis Varipatis and his girlfriend are truffle hunters.
