Kai Korthals has been locked up for life in prison psychiatric care. One night during a theatre performance of the inmates, some turmoil ensues, and Kai finds himself the rescuer of a prison psychologist, saving her from rape and killing to assailants in the process. Afterwards he escapes without being noticed. Borowski and Mila Sahin are called in to investigate his disappearance. Korthals had received quite a few letters from admirers such as the pastoral counsellor Teresa. Sahin and Bor-owski suspect that the women will be in mortal danger. A dangerous pursuit begins, but Borowski is reluctant to fully participate. He has not been able to shake how Korthals has threatened both Borowski and his fiancée Frieda Jung.
