Ferdinand Zankl, a private detective, is arrested on suspicion of murder by the Passau Criminal Investigation Dept. He is suspected of killing his former girlfriend, the manageress of an animal shelter. But Zankl considers himself to be innocent and pressurises Frederike Bader into finding the real perpetrator by going undercover. Zankl is in a hurry. He has to leave prison as soon as possible, to do something that can no longer wait. Searching for Roman relics, Bavarian archeologists are currently excavating the very spot where Zankl buried the body of an Arab contract killer last winter. Zankl is worried that they will eventually find "his" corpse. A discovery that could also have grave consequences for Frederike Bader and her daughter, Mia, who live in Passau as part of a witness protection scheme
