After her mother dies, Lilly discovers that the father she never knew is alive in Namibia, where he runs a farm and guest house - Kambonde. She leaves her fiancé Robert behind and checks incognito into Hinrich Lackner's guest house. She is picked up at the airport by Lackner's best friend, Jan Seebach, who runs an animal protection agency. As Lilly gets to know the complex and contradictory Hinrich Lackner, she also learns to love Namibia and its people. But Samuel, Lackner's black farmhand, his wife Zephi and daughter Mara are concerned: Herbert Marberg, Lackner's neighbour, guest house owner and a man eager to expand his property at all costs, has taken a liking to Lilly. Marberg further manipulates Lackner's son Adrrian, ensuring that he will be able to take over Lackner's farm. To make matters worse, Marberg has influence over the bank director, Mr. Becker, where Lackner has his overdraft. All these forces conspire to ruin Hinrich Lackner. He ultimately turns to Mara and Lilly. with her background in business, for help. Meanwhile, Lilly has been bitten by a snake and saved by Jan Seebach, for whom she has started to develop strong feelings. A clap of thunder finally brings the long-awaited rain, and Lilly tells Hinrich that she is his daughter. She returns to Germany, promising to come back to Namibia and visit with Robert. But no sooner is she back home, she receives an urgent phone call: Marberg has shot at Samuel, and Hinrich has suffered a heart attack. If Lilly wants to see him again, she must go back at once…
