Juliane, authoress of penny dreadfuls, is a specialist of her trade. Millions of readers flock to kiosks to obtain her heartache novels. In her private life however, she is still searching for her dream man. One day, in her uncle's dental surgery where she often helps out, an emergency patient arrives, moody and with an appropriate nickname: Buffalo. He is accompanied by his charming Swiss friend Jean, who Juliane immediately falls in love with. A further date seems impossible, as Jean swiftly returns to Switzerland. Juliane recalls her experience in a new novel which becomes a big hit, the rights of which are bought by a production company. During a screenplay meeting, Juliane is perplexed when introduced to the director - none other than Buffalo. Buffalo seems to like Juliane and offers to take her back to Switzerland with him, where he wants to spend Christmas with his son at his friend’s house. Juliane enthusiastically agrees, in the hope of getting close to her dream man. Her elation upon arrival is soon dampened: Buffalo’s friend is a hotelier and not Jean. However, as coincidence would have it, Jean turns up in St. Moritz the very next day and the implications begin.
