The bestseller author Max Mangold is in a crisis. He has been writing successful novels using a female pseudonym for years, but no one is supposed to know. Max feels increasingly ignored as an author and this has a negative influence on his marriage with Susanne. She is a law professor, celebrated for her successes, but the public never gets to see him. The crisis deepens when Susanne decides to leave Berlin for a year to follow her calling to Rostock University. Daughter Paula also has problems understanding her mother's desire for a marital break; being heavily pregnant and alone, she could do with her parents' sup-port more than ever. As soon as Susanne leaves, Max suffers from a writer's block and his publisher piles on the pressure. The fact that Su-sanne encounters her childhood flame, Joern, is not particularly helpful and so Max decides to follow Susanne to the coast in the hope of win-ning her back. But initially, everything goes wrong.
