The famous Orient Express travels just once a year from Bangkok, through Thailand's northeast en route to Laos. The Singapore ARD-Studio team accompanied the luxury trains journey with their cameras and was also on hand when the train rolled across the Mekong to Laos for the very first time. This was indeed a piece of train history for Southeast Asia, whose countries are determined to draw closer together by extending their respective rail networks.
The outcome of the journey is an entertaining travelogue about the adventure of a train journey in tropical Asia, which was not without surprises. The oversized luxury train, with its two dining cars and a bar carriage, had to cope with massive delays, because the locomotives of the Thailand State Railway were occasionally too weak to pull the monster train. The guests on board took it all in their stride when the train got stuck in the jungle. After all, there was enough wine and champagne on board.
