What can a little goose do if it doesn't like water? Leave home - like Pauline, who is fed up with her sisters' constant teasing. And anyway, who says a goose had to swim? Pauline discovers lots of exciting things to do on land, and makes friends with beetles, snails, mice and moles. In the woods, she meets a buck who takes her on a wild ride on his antlers, and a mischievous squirrel who loves to play pranks on the clever fox. Pauline also gets herself in trouble, like when she and her mouse friend are caught in a boat in the middle of a storm and have to be rescued by otters. Fortunately, Pauline finally comes across a farm inhabited by such a colourful array of animals that she feels right at home: there are three jolly singing cows, a weight- and wellness-conscious sow, and a cock who hides chickens' eggs while he sleepwalks. No matter how scary or exciting her adventures are, Pauline discovers that her fellow animals, wild or domestic, are always willing to help one another and always ready to accept her just as she is - as a little goose who's afraid of water, but who's always eager to make new experiences.
